Supplies needed:
-bar mops (I got a 6pk from Target for $4)
-scrap fabric cut into a 15" x 3" strip
-snaps
-matching thread
As seen below, start by folding each 3" side wrong sides facing, 1/2" and iron flat. Next, fold fabric in half lengthwise, right sides facing and iron. Sew a 1/4" seam down the length.
Next, turn your fabric right side out. I use the blunt end of a plastic knitting needle to make this part easier. Once right side out, flatten so the seam is down the center and iron flat.
Next, sew a 1/4" seam on each short end.
Fold fabric in half and stitch right down the center. I used a decorative stitch, but a straight stitch is just fine.
Install your snap hardware. This part is difficult to explain. Follow the instructions on the back of the package being sure to install correctly. It doesn't do you any good to have the snaps on opposite sides :) Look at my pictures and set up your final lay-out to be sure you are installing correctly.
Fold the corner of the bar mop in, wrong sides facing. See photo for specifics.
Lay your fabric strip across the corner triangle of the bar mop as pictured and pin.
Flip over and stitch just next to edge of bar mop.
VOILA! Kids are happy and so is mom. Choose your child's favorite color or character fabric so they each have their own while you keep a little of your sanity :)

This is such a wonderful idea!! .. I've been a crafter for year's & now I have nurve damage to my hand's, so I'm limited as to what I can do... This project with the bar towel with the strap & snap looks easy enough for me to handle.. Yay!! .. I do thank-You for sharing this idea of yours!! :D .. Mel ~:-)

Great idea with the snaps. I'll be making some of these for sure. I saw your link on the American Crafters audition page. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteOk, this is brilliant! I am forever finding the handtowel tossed on the floor by my boys and it drives me BONKERS!! I put up a sticky-tab plastic hook that was lower for them. That worked for awhile....till the 5yr old tried to hang on it and broke it off the wall. The towel bar is too high for them and seems to be too tricky. I am MOST definitely doing this project to start winning the bathroom battle against three little boys!! Don't know why I didn't think of it myself. Thanks so much for sharing!
